Get to Know Dr. Sumant Agrawal (“Dr. A”)
While giving his patients healthy, attractive smiles is always Dr. A’s highest priority, he strives to do more as the lead dentist at BiteSize Dentistry. He aims to cultivate a warm and positive environment for both our patients and team, and he makes sure he always has time to get to know someone beyond their teeth during their visits. That way, he can tailor his approach so it perfectly suits someone’s needs and personality.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. A was drawn to dentistry during his junior year of college. Healthcare was already an interest of his, but he didn't know which field he should pursue. Ultimately, he shadowed his family dentist and became fascinated by the hands-on work and family-oriented nature of the practice.
Fast forward to when he was in dental school, and it was abundantly clear to Dr. A that dentistry would be the field he was destined to further explore. He had a lecture that claimed dentistry is the crossroads of biology, art, and engineering, all of which summed up his interests.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
After earning his bachelor’s degree in systems engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. A attended the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for dental school. He then completed several courses in continued education through the Kois Center, a renowned sedation educator in Dr. David Canfield, and has committed to the full curriculum taught through the prestigious Pankey Institute (a world leader in postgraduate dental education). He works diligently to constantly evolve and expand his skillset to better serve his patients.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. A is married to his high school sweetheart, Dahlgren, a florist in Houston who owns Olive and King Floral Design. His two sisters also work in healthcare, and his parents (both of whom worked at NASA early in their careers) now run various small businesses in the area. That is, when they aren’t playing with their two dogs or traveling the world.
As for Dr. A himself, he’s an avid crossworder who’s partial towards NYT. He enjoys running and has completed a marathon along with several half marathons. He also reads, watches movies, collects vinyl, and has found fewer things more calming than 5 AM walks with coffee. When he has time to venture outside of Houston, you’ll often find him skiing, hiking, or going to the beach.
